Under the name of “Media Skills for Sustainable Civil Peace in Lebanon” training workshop, organized by Ms Vanessa Bassil under the umbrella of UNYA and in partnership with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung – Lebanon, 26 young journalists were trained, from 6th till 10th of April 2011 at “Le Crillon” hotel Broumana, on how to use media for creating change and building peace.
Many Lebanese journalists use media to reflect their personal and political opinion, whereas the peace journalism concept reminds them about the role they have in creating common ground between conflict sides and reflecting the truth. The young journalists were trained on how to separate between their religious and political views and their work as journalists. They also compared some of the articles written during Lebanese conflicts and they realized the terms used are of war not peace. At the end, they were encouraged to practice Peace journalism in their future work
